Future

Biodegradable Bags

Biodegradable vacuum sealed bags are made from renewable resources and decompose over time, reducing single-use plastic waste. They are strong, durable, and suitable for various uses, and can be composted at home.

In our experiment, we utilized vacuum-sealed bags with cork to explore their acoustic properties. This initiative stemmed from our interest in creating a do-it-yourself (DIY) version of cork. However, recognising the sustainability concerns associated with conventional vacuum-sealed bags, we are actively investigating the use of biodegradable alternatives for future experiments. The goal is to identify more eco-friendly and cost-effective options for homeowners, considering that cork, as a material, is not typically inexpensive.

In the future, industries can investigate creative ways to combine cork with other materials, offering chances for improved qualities and uses. Notably, Amorim, a Portuguese manufacturing business, has already taken this creative route by sustainably fusing cork with other materials, such plastic. This innovative project opens doors for new applications and sustainable solutions by fusing cork with other materials, signalling a bright trend for the sector.
